A Symposium and Q & a session on ASD now called Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Aspergers will be held at the Healthy Lifestyle Expo on Saturday afternoon at 3pm in Workshop Room #1. To book your spot at this already hugely popular event please use this link http://ascsymposium.eventbrite.com.au/
This will be a panel of experts in various areas of expertise who will be there ready to answer your questions, they include:
Trish O’Brien an Occupational Therapist and author of the book “The Early Identification of Autism Spectrum Disorders: A Visual Guide”.
Barbara Cook and Paul Kay, originally created the Sunshine Coast Autism Aspergers Network (SCAAN) back in early 2009 as an online resource for the local Sunshine Coast Autism Community. Barbara is not only the Executive Director of the Network, she is also Editor in Chief of the Australian Autism Aspergers Network Magazine which is rapidly gaining acceptance through out Australia.
Don Chisholm is best known for his radically different approach to health in his focus on ‘Gut’ health as a foundation for a healthy lifestyle, and with the research into Gut health and ASC being of prime inmportant Don will weigh in on this forum with his expertise in this area.
David Miles has Aspergers and was diagnosed in adulthood after suffering the misunderstood childhood of a non diagnosed ASC sufferer. His story and his experience will give many insights into what to expect and the ways in which those with ASC can differ from what we call ‘normal’.
Kristen Veltmeyer has Aspergers and presented at the ASA conference last year regarding her experiences growing up with Aspergers. She has a teaching degree and masters degree in special education, she is currently completing a degree in social science.
Plus we are hugely excited by the appearance of the Smartpups to our Symposium. These amazing dogs are skillfully trained by Patricia and her team to help parents to look after and manage their ASC children. These nanny pups are amazing to see in action with their children and are taught to hold, track and love these kids.
If you would like to know more about Smartpups please go to their website http://smartpups.org.au
If you would like to put your name on the list as a definite booking for the Expo please come to our Facebook page and leave us a message. Or just turn up to the Expo on Saturday afternoon prior to 3pm and we will admit you to the room.
